- and again another Westies event with great member support
We had good running conditions last month, and better this go. Great pbs, best times, all-out efforts and a course record are all testament to that.
Our first six to finish all ran under handicap by more than two minutes. Only one was a qualifier. Seldom in the 10k do we have anywhere near this number of qualified runners breaking that threshold. In doing so, you all recorded significant pbs on your best previous runs, but unfortunately, in bettering that two minute mark you are not eligible for the trophy.
Kath Dell’Orefice, Seb Dell’Orefice, Siobhan Kelly, Lisa Wedgwood, Trevor Ching and Clarence Caraballo. However, please accept the congratulations of myself and your Westies mates and competitors. These are really great results. Four of you are in training for the UTA trail events in May and your efforts are truly paying dividends.
The next to finish was Tracy Lee who ran her third qualifier in her comeback, and her best time since August’18. You are going well Tracy.
Next across the mats was our trophy winner Arlene Caraballo running her best time since October’18 of 68:20. Congratulations Arlene. Go girl. Another UTA here I come. Coming in 2nd was Eamon McCann with a 44:19, a 50 second pb over his best result last series. And 3rd, was the fast finishing Jack Wedgwood in his pb and new junior course record time of 40:30, bettering his efforts last month by 49 seconds. Well done all. It’s not easy getting on this podium.
The next 8 finishers also ran under handicap with most running their best time in over 6 months and finished under handicap. Great running.
Thank you to those who helped at set-up and afterwards with the pack-up. And thank you to our vital and magnificent volunteers on all the drink stations. Bert and Martin have been given the next few months off for we do not have the station out the back across the cooler months. Thanks guys. Thanks to Davo for again marking up the course and for the great photos. We just wouldn’t have the successful event without people putting their hands up. And as always, congratulations and thank you to everyone that took part.
And please don’t forget – the water cups we are now using are recyclable and being collected for that purpose.
