A morning for great running. We had 62 starters, 24 of whom bettered handicap, and 30 produced a pb, either on our new course, or on any Westies 3.5k course. The first seven to cross the mats all bettered their handicaps by more than one minute; this seven included the first home, Zoe Turner, in her best ever 3.5k run and pb’d by 1m 33s.  Not too far behind was Ron Klinker with a similar pb. Unfortunately if you better handicap by better than one minute you are ineligible for the trophy. Great running Zoe and Ron. Our other early finishers were either qualifiers or on-the-day adjusted handicaps.

Our trophy winner was Kath Dell’Orefice finishing 7 seconds ahead of Brianna Lee, and then two seconds to Sandra Riches. And then they came with a rush ... Kath’s win was tribute to the work she has been putting in recent months. She has discovered the trails events and was spotted training in the Blue Mountains last Sunday week, the day after pb’ing by over 3 minutes in the 10k handicap. This go Kath took 7 seconds off her previous best (August’18) on all 3.5k courses to claim her “first ever trophy”. Great run Kath. Congratulations. Likewise with great results were Brianna, a junior, and Sandra, a very quick walker. Both ladies also pb’ing on this course, now 3 runs old. Well done ladies.

Paul Moro came in fourth and he has lowered his times with every start this series. Paul won the March handicap and not far off another trophy.

For the second month running, Kayley Sommer has lowered the ‘open’ and ‘junior’ course records, this go by 3 seconds.

Sophie Trinh lowered the 16-18 age record that was held by her sister Emma, by one second. And in doing so, also beat home her brother Nathan by that one second, “which made my weekend”.

Great running by our junior ladies, Zoe, Brianna, Kayley and Sophie.

Our fastest on the day was David Riches in 12:38, missing his own course record by 2 seconds. Close.

And Sandra won the Walker’s Trophy for the month, bettering Ken Mudie by 12 seconds.

Trivia:
Our fastest junior female, Kayley, crossed the mats at the same time as our elder statesman of the handicap, Norm Cooper.

7 year-old Eliya unintentionally swapped chips with her 17 year-old brother, and recorded a time 13 minutes faster. That’s how you can beat your bro. It was unfortunate for Eliya that the handicapper does look closely at the results 😊
