Westies Volunteer at Warrior Run at Centennial Park

Published Fri 06 Sep 2019

Last Sunday 13 Westies were volunteers at Rob de Castella’s WARRIOR RUN at Centennial Park. Westies marshalled the start/finish line and the critical turn and junction points on the course, with several of us on radio communications.

The Warrior Run events are significant fundraisers for the Indigenous Marathon Foundation (IMF), a not-for-profit charity that uses running to change lives. To date, the IMF has trained and mentored 86 Indigenous Australians across the finish line of major international marathons. These runners continue to work with IMF as drivers of change for their families, communities and Australia promoting health, driving social change and celebrating incredible Indigenous resilience and achievement.

In conjunction with the run is a Festival to celebrate Father’s Day.

This was a great morning to be about, and you know that you have done something very worthwhile. This is the 5th year of the run in Sydney and the 5th occasion that Westies have assisted with the event. It is low key and stress free, goes with minimum advertising, and this go attracted 847 runners and walkers. Their best turnout. Jack and Mark Wedgwood have competed in all years and this go the boys ran 41:07 and 48:43 respectively, Mark again backing up after Trailwalker.

Again Westies, well done.

Vic.
