Running wild with Running Wild in the Blue Mtns

Published Fri 22 Mar 2019

In recent weeks Westies have participated in the Running Wild events in the Blue Mountains, at Wentworth Falls and Mt Portal, with numbers of 11 and 14 respectively. And a couple of others volunteering.

Wenty Falls (16 & 13k) provided a dry day, but slippery, muddy for some, and technical track. Mt Portal (17 & 11k) gave us overnight rain, a dry start, then rain, rain and rain, more fire trail than usual, a little less technical, a crayfish and a somewhat fogged out view of the Nepean and beyond, albeit still spectacular.

Both events were great, with the RW hospitality and friendliness, and the support of the Westies for each other on course and at the finish line. Great efforts. Great results. All getting ready for the UTA in May.

Trivia:
Q1. Is this what you call a woman's prerogative?
When she changes from the long course to the short course at bib pick-up, and then during the event, stays on course for the long one!

Q2. When do you feel the love?
When you high-5 a fellow Westie going in the opposite direction, then the unknown runner behind says: “I’ll have one of those too”!

Q3. Why the crayfish?
Leah and Sam found one, 6” plus, on track (near a creek) in the latter stages of their run.

Vic.
